The Good
We thoroughly enjoyed the Agedashi Tofu. Fresh out of the fryer, the thin, crisp skin was delicate and golden brown. Within, the tofu was silky smooth and was nicely accompanied by a soy and yuzu chilli sauce. Delicious.
We then sampled the Gyoza. The thin and crisp skin of each dumpling was absolutely delightful. The juicy mince within was full of flavour and very soft. The crisp skin was lightly dressed with a vinegar and soy sauce and complemented by fresh spring onion, making for a tasty and scrumptious treat.
The Baos didn’t disappoint either. The Pork Belly Bao was aptly fatty and was glazed with a slight spicy kimchi soy sauce. Meanwhile, the Braised Beef was beautifully tender and succulent, cooked in a beautifully balanced sweet soy sauce. All served in fluffy bao buns,
We rounded off with a serve of Fried Rice. The rice was nicely cooked, light and loose without being overly oily or wet. Nicely accompanied by egg, chicken and veggies, this was a warming and comforting dish for sure.
The Mediocre
Unfortunately the Miso Grilled Salmon failed to make an impression. The salmon slices were thin and overcooked, making for a tough and slightly dry sensation. The Miso sauce was lightly applied, and definitely wasn’t quite enough to provide enough flavour for the fillets of fish.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
Grand Lafayette sports an All-You-Can-Eat menu with a Japanese twist that’s generally well executed, freshly prepared and competitively priced. While none of the dishes were truly outstanding in their own right, the headline price of $32.80 represents pretty good value for what you get!
