The Good
We were off to a tasty start with a variety of entrees including Grilled Chicken and Crispy Pork Banh Baos, as well as the signature Grilled Beef in Betel Leaf.
The Grilled Chicken Banh Bao was delicious. Within the soft, pillowy bao sandwiched a piece of tender, juicy grilled chicken that was basted with a sweet soy marinade. Meanwhile, the Crispy Pork was roasted to perfection. The outer crackling offered an incredibly satisfying crunch, making way for a juicy and fatty inner.
We then devoured the Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Beef Soup) and the Bun Suon Nuong Cha Gio (Vermicelli with Pork and Spring Rolls).
With a brilliant red appearance, the Bun Bo Hue was a noodle soup filled to the brim. The round rice noodles within were cooked just right, soaking up the spicy, salty, and umami flavours of the broth. This was accompanied by plenty of Vietnamese sausages, sliced beef and bean sprouts. While the broth could’ve been a tad bolder, this was no doubt a very enjoyable bowl of noodles.
The Bun Suon Nuong Cha Gio didn’t disappoint either. Topped with a generous helping of the once again flawless Crispy Pork with the amazing crackle, as well as fresh out of the fryer Spring Rolls, the crunch elements were definitely plentiful. Underneath, the thin, warm rice noodles were accompanied by shredded lettuce, bean sprouts and carrots. All tied together with a sweet and tangy fish sauce, this dish was light, yet exceptionally tasty.
Their Saigon Special Fried Rice certainly wasn’t bad either. The rice was aptly crumbly, with plenty of Chinese Sausage, Egg, Prawns, as well as veggies including corn, peas and spring onion. The fragrant combination created a nice balance of savoury and sweet, all without being overly oily or wet – the usual pitfalls of a poorly made fried rice. This was just right, and the portion was more than generous!
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
Nothing.
