The Good
The Spaghetti Marinara was a delightful surprise, offering beautifully fragrant squid ink pasta with an appropriately glossy coating. Generously scattered throughout was fresh, quality seafood, including king prawns with a lovely snappy bite. An exceptionally enjoyable and well-executed pasta dish.
We also enjoyed the Prosciutto Pizza, particularly its generous helping of delicate, tender prosciutto. The dough was soft, fluffy and pleasantly spongy, although the base lacked the crispness that a little extra oven time would have provided. The toppings certainly outshone the bake.
The Mediocre
The much-publicised 100 Layer Lasagna was unfortunately the biggest disappointment. Rather than the advertised abundance of layers, we found substantially fewer, with dry ends and a meat filling short on moisture. The small serving of bolognese alongside did little to rescue this surprisingly underwhelming signature dish.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
Cena delivered a mixed experience, with excellent seafood pasta and a flavoursome pizza contrasted by a surprisingly dry lasagna. Although the service was friendly, having to request water three times suggested that attentiveness could also improve. There are worthwhile dishes here, but the execution is not consistent enough to make this an essential destination. We’d return selectively for the seafood rather than the namesake lasagna.
