The Good
It was a tasty start with an assortment of savoury pastries. First was the Olive Quiche. The savoury of the olive was nicely accompanied by earthy spinach and juicy tomato, all held together by the creamy vegan cheese. The pastry holding it altogether was simply delightful, offering a suitably crumbly, light and crisp texture that felt just like its traditional counterpart.
The Scrolls didn’t disappoint either. The cheesemite scroll was characterised by a savoury, cheesy sensation paste that was suitably sticky, well accompanied by the light, fluffy scroll. Meanwhile, the pizza scroll had a nice balance of sweet and savoury thanks to the appetising tomato paste.
We also enjoyed the Potato and Mushroom Pastie. Served warm, the toasted pastie had a thin and light outer that was slightly crusty and a tad crumbly. Within, the pastie was filled with a beautiful potato mash with the occasional slice of mushroom that was incredibly comforting and fragrant. A hearty and filling pastie that’s perfect for the cold weather.
We then treated ourselves to some sweets. The highlight was no doing the Lemon and Vanilla Gateau. The 6-layered dessert was an instant favourite, with a decadent, creamy vanilla layered with tangy and zesty layers of fluffy lemon sponge. We found the flavours well balanced and sweetness was well behaved, enjoyable without being overly rich nor overpowering.
Another favourite was the Lamington. Gorgeously presented, the lamington had a thin, textured outer layer with shredded coconut and chocolate. The signature crumbly, spongy texture of the lamington within was absolutely spot on, and we also found a dollop of jam adding a hit of sweetness.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
Just by taste alone, you’d seriously struggle to realise that all their beautiful pastries and cakes on offer at Glazed Gluten Free are free from gluten, dairy, or nuts.
Every single item we sampled today so closely mimicked their traditional counterparts. From the crusty, flakey base of the quiche, to the creamy goodness of the lemon gateau. All we can say is, Glazed Gluten Free totally nailed it in every aspect – taste, texture, consistency!
