The Good
After a rather long wait, the waffles finally emerged from the kitchen and damn do they look pretty. The presentation definitely gets an 11/10. It’s probably the most amazing-looking waffle I’ve ever had.
The waffle itself was freshly made and had been infused with a decent charcoal flavour which is all the rave these days. Unfortunately the outer wasn’t nearly as crunchy as I liked and didn’t quite contrasted the soft and fluffy inner that I had hope for…
The fruits were exceedingly fresh and combined rather well with the flavoursome and bold matcha ice cream and chocolate sauce. The matcha flavour further permeated throughout with a generous dose of matcha ganache, which gave the whole waffle a Japanese twist.
The Mediocre
The coffees were rather unremarkable. While smooth overall, they leaned towards the weak side and lacked depth in flavour. Good thing it was actually hot though, as requested. Presentation again was a winner.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
Overall a decent joint for waffles and most likely the gelato as well. However, the main selling points remain to be the novelty factor of pouring your own ganache and beautiful presentation, as opposed to the taste of the food itself.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Maybe. While not the most amazing waffles I’ve had, they certainly weren’t bad. I think I’d still prefer Waffle Club for their waffles though.
