The Good
The Coffees were an excellent start, offering a beautifully smooth, creamy brew with a satisfyingly strong caffeine kick. A very enjoyable accompaniment to brunch.
The Roast Mushroom & Pesto Toast was certainly generous, arriving loaded with mushrooms and tomatoes for a substantial vegetable-focused meal. Unfortunately, the poached eggs alongside had been cooked too firmly, missing the wonderfully runny yolks that would have brought the components together. Despite that misstep, the serving size was impressive.
The Mediocre
Nothing.
The Bad
The KBBQ Pulled Beef Toastie was considerably less successful. Although the beef itself was juicy and tender, the promised Korean barbecue flavours were muted, without the expected smoky, punchy sauce. More troubling still, several parts of the sandwich were noticeably cold in the middle. This was a basic execution error that overshadowed the otherwise enjoyable meat.
The Verdict
Finders Keepers Cafe offers excellent coffee and a generous brunch menu, but our visit exposed some frustrating inconsistencies with the hot food. The mushroom toast was hearty yet let down by overcooked eggs, while the cold portions of the beef toastie were particularly disappointing. We’d consider returning for coffee and a catch-up. The kitchen, however, has some work to do before earning the same confidence.
