- The Full Brunch
- Wagyu Burger
- Biscoff Stack
- Biscoff Latte
- Mango Cloud Matcha
The Good
The Full Brunch was enormous, a giant plate with the bacon curled up into a rose. Around it sat plenty of crispy kale, roasted cherry tomatoes, pan fried button mushrooms, chicken sausages, two poached eggs, a hash brown and sourdough. Everything was executed well, tasty and of good quality, and we had no complaints whatsoever. A thoroughly satisfying spread.
The Wagyu Burger was fantastic, and a huge one at that. Two thick, juicy wagyu patties sat under plenty of melted cheddar, all tucked into a lightly toasted brioche bun with a tasty sauce, fresh lettuce with a good crunch and a layer of bacon. A great burger, let alone at a cafe. The good serve of fresh chips alongside was tasty too.
Impressive is the word for the Biscoff Stack. The two-high pancake stood tall with a large circumference, fluffy and built on a moist, spongy crumb. A generous helping of Biscoff was layered between each pancake and over the top, with vanilla ice cream melting down the middle and a Biscoff biscuit perched on top.
The Mediocre
The Biscoff Latte looked the part but tasted like a regular iced latte. There simply wasn’t enough Biscoff in it to make it worth ordering over the standard version.
The Mango Cloud Matcha was a good-looking drink, but the flavours just didn’t work well together. The mango and matcha fought rather than complemented each other, leaving it a confusing sip.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
This is a properly generous brunch, with huge, well-executed plates and a standout sweet option that towers over the table. The drinks are the weak link, one missing its headline flavour and the other pairing flavours that didn’t gel. Come hungry and order from the food menu.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
Yes. The food is big, tasty and good value for a cafe, and we’d happily return for another feed.
