Hoppy Dumpling (South Yarra)

- Sichuan Dandan Noodles
The Good
The Pork & Celery Pan-Fried Dumplings were absolutely delightful. We found their skins remarkably thin, giving way to a beautifully crisp bottom that contrasted with the generous, juicy and distinctly meaty filling. Packed with flavour, these were expertly executed and easily one of the highlights of our meal.
We also enjoyed the Wonton Noodle Soup, a comforting and pleasantly delicate bowl. The substantial pork-and-prawn wontons were wrapped in wonderfully silky skins, while the noodles retained a satisfying al dente bite. All of this was accompanied by a clean, light broth that allowed the ingredients to shine.
The Mediocre
The Sichuan Dandan Noodles offered plenty of enjoyable flavour, with a pleasant chilli kick and a rich combination of peanut and sesame that coated the noodles thoroughly. Unfortunately, the noodles themselves had been cooked far too soft, leaving the dish texturally disappointing despite its otherwise successful sauce.
The Bad
Nothing.
The Verdict
Hoppy Dumpling certainly knows how to put together delicious and well-seasoned dumplings, with the pan-fried pork and celery rendition particularly impressive. The dandan noodles were less convincing because of their overcooked texture. We also found the portions small for the prices charged. A tasty South Yarra option, though hardly the most economical way to satisfy a dumpling craving.
